PCWA Asks Raw Water Customers for Voluntary Conservation Due to Water Delivery Problem

Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) is asking customers who purchase untreated water to consider voluntarily reducing use of that water for the next several months. The request results from damages to a Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) facility that delivers water to PCWA from Lake Spalding.

PG&E Repair Delays Worsen Water Delivery Challenges:

Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) and Nevada Irrigation District (NID) have announced further delays in repairing essential water delivery infrastructure at their Spaulding #1 Powerhouse. Initially scheduled for completion by early June, the repair completion date has now been pushed to late July.

The delay is one of several in the repair of PG&E’s Spaulding #1 Powerhouse, which has been offline since early March following the discovery of a leak and subsequent damage. This latest delay is substantial enough to trigger action by both PCWA and NID towards conserving water until PG&E has their water system back online.

As Meadow Vista County Water District (MVCWD) purchases untreated water from PCWA the District has been asked to request voluntary water conservation from all MVCWD customers.

Therefore, the District asks that you please assess how you use water and take immediate action to curb water waste and cut back on your usage until this issue is resolved and possibly avoid future mandatory water cutbacks.

We understand how important it is to maintain your landscape, especially during the hotter months. With rising temperatures, it’s crucial to use water wisely indoors and outdoors to ensure a reliable supply for everyone. Below are some simple tips to make a big difference to help use less water.

  • Reduce each sprinkler use by 2min. (saves 80 gallons per day)

  • Adjust sprinklers to water plants not driveway (saves 40 gallons)

  • Fix household leaks ( saves 10,000 gallons per year)

  • Water plants early in the morning ( saves 50 gallons each time you water)

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to water conservation during this critical time.
